Snacking To Stay Warm

November 28, 2001

Since you’re all avid Pointe readers, I’m sure you’ve heard us repeat it over and over: Healthy fats are essential to a dancer’s diet. Your body needs them to absorb vitamins, balance out hormones and make you feel full and satisfied.

Winter is an especially good time to follow this advice, because the energy your body spends burning the healthy fats helps keep you warm, according to the American Heart Association. Salmon, avocados and nut butters are a a great source of dancer-friendly fats. But if you’re looking for something that will really create body heat, throw some spiced almonds in your dance bag. The protein will give you the boost you need to get through class, and the combination of heathy fats and cayenne pepper will jumpstart that internal fire.
