Man In Tights
In case some of our readers haven’t seen the recent issue of Newsweek with American Ballet Theatre soloist Sascha Radetsky’s essay, “Don’t Judge Me By My Tights,” you can see it here: www.newsweek.com/id/120061. Radetsky points out the stereotypes that continue to hound male dancers—especially those in ballet—and also explains why he is proud of what he does. He talked a little about this in 2003, when he told Pointe, “Unfortunately, every male dancer I know has his own painful story of being harassed as a kid. The harassment ranges in severity from occasional disparaging remarks to serious physical abuse. Dancing is, of course, not something to be ashamed of.” It’s good to see that his message is continuing to get out there.
