Happy 50th, KCB!

Kansas City Ballet reached 50 this season, celebrating with world premières and its debut at NYC’s Joyce Theater last week. The company looks forward to more significant developments in the next two years, with the opening of a new headquarters and resident theater.

Next year, following a major renovation of Kansas City’s train station power house, the company will move into its new permanent home there, the Todd Bolender Center for Dance and Creativity. The 60,000-square-foot building will feature seven rehearsal studios and a 180-seat performance venue.

In 2010, the city will open the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, a 1,800-seat proscenium theater that will become the main venue for KCB, as well as the local opera and symphony.

Next up, the company will perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, for the first time in June, as part of the “Ballet Across America” series. See the June/July 2008 issue of Pointe for more.
